Beltline Bike Shop

Tax deductible
WHO WE ARE:

The Beltline Bike Shop exists to teach kids the value of hard work, goal setting, and respect by rewarding community service with something tangible and valuable, while building positive relationships with adult role models. Our vision? To see the lives of youth who may be at risk of falling through the cracks, grow up to become successful leaders with purpose, character, and confidence. The Beltline Bike Shop is a year-round developmental program...and it all starts with a bike.

Since 2009 our program has greatly matured from making bike repairs in our driveway to 2 fully-functioning work shops & a mobile shop, all which offer earning & learning opportunities to over 150 kids as young as 5 and as old as 18.  At the bike shop kids develope vital skills needed for a thriving life and a successful career in a skilled trade.

HOW YOU CAN BE A PART:

Invest in one of our programs today!

Earn & Learn Program: Kids are invited to earn a bike of their own through community service or logging shop hours. Shop leaders & neighbors within the community mentor kids as opportunities arise in the shop & engage one another in the community. Meanwhile kids are introduced to the value of hard work.

Merit Program: True job-training develops through the Merit Program. Kids increase their skill set by measuring & testing their progress & advancing through levels which increase in difficulty & time invested by kids. Meanwhile, community relationships deepen through a dignified exchange of work & reward. Kids, in their most formidable years, develop life skills & an increased awareness of the attitudes, skills & behaviors needed for success on the streets, at work & at school.

Advanced Job Training Program: As kids graduate from our Merit Program they have the opportunity to enter the final phase in their skill development gained through the bike shop by moving into our Advanced Job-Training Program. This program is designed to elevate employability skills learned in the Merit Program & to increase awareness of the attitudes, skills, & behaviors needed for successful long term employment. This program offers young men from our community the opportunity to learn while they earn with a paid position in the bike shop.

***All money will go toward supplying the people, places & things needed to provide the most effective training for kids within all 3 programs.

English Avenue Build-Out: Phase 2: We've spent 2014 investing time in the organizational structure & processes of the English Avenue bike shop, increasing the number of participants & training volunteers. To create the most fully functioning space for kids to learn how to work, money will now be used to purchase equipment & tools, build work spaces, secure storage & organization for supplies & provide the technical components to enrich kids’ learning.
