Baby Alex Nevus Removal

Hello, my name is Alex. I am a one-year-old boy from Ukraine. I was born in the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, in the hardest days of Ukrainian revolution.

The dark spot that you see on my face is the birthmark. My dad, mom and my five-year old brother loves me the way I am, but the surrounding people do not.


Pointing fingers and side-glances are the common reaction when I do my first steps outside. A boy in the café asked my dad to take me away as he considered me scary few weeks ago….

I cannot yet ask for an explanation and the reasons but my daddy had told me that I was kissed by God.

Due to open location of my birthmark the doctors told my parents that I have 10-x times higher “potential risk of malignant change and surgery is directed at minimizing this risk”.

To our regret, none of the Ukrainian doctors is capable to remove the nevi in my young age without effecting my face mimics but Dr. Bruce Bauer, the Director of Pediatric Plastic Surgery Department of NorthShore University HealthSystems in Northbrook, IL can!

He has done thousands of giant congenital pigmented nevi removals and agreed to remove mine.

The removal will consist of three stages:

1. Tissue expander placement [scheduled on 7th of May & and cost $6,500];
2. The two-month long expanded skin stretching [done by parents];
3. The excision of nevus [scheduled on 2nd of July & cost $8,500].

The early removal will decreases the risk of malignant melanoma and reduce the signs of post-surgery scars on my face according to Dr. Bauer.

Please help me raise the money to remove the nevus from my cheek.

I might not know you now but I would always remember you, as I would carry the signs of your love and compassion on my healthy smiling face all my life through.
