Have you ever had a family member or someone you loved diagnosed with cancer? If so, you'll understand my determination to help find a cure for that devastating disease.
My name is Rick Kackley. I am a
Disabled Veteran and have been battling cancer for the past 4 years. I
originally was diagnosed with lung cancer in the spring of 2008. The doctors performed
a left lobectomy to remove the tumor and I was recovering. In early 2009, I
began having a sore throat. When it finally got to a point where I was choking
on food and having great difficulty swallowing, it was determined that I had throat
cancer. I received radiation and chemotherapy into the spring of 2010. The
doctors have continued to follow-up on my cancer every couple of months. After
receiving my PET scan in August, 2011, I was again told there were spots in
both my lungs. Since that time, I have had tests every couple of months to
monitor the spots. In April, 2012, one area had begun to grow again and I
received radiation treatment. They will continue to monitor the other growths
to determine future treatment. In addition, I have an inoperable brain tumor
that I have had for 15 years that causes severe migraines and other
complications. Needless to say, life continues to be a roller coaster and a
daily challenge.
I have told you all of this to
explain why I am so passionate about my mission. Since the most recent
diagnosis, I have founded a group, Bikers Against Cancer, on Facebook. In March,
2012, on behalf of the group, a friend and I made an eighteen day ride from
Dallas, Texas to the California coast to raise money for curing cancer. I also
planned and held a benefit, Concert Against Cancer, on August 25, 2012 at Rick
Fairless' Strokers Dallas. All proceeds
went to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and the National Lung Cancer
Partnership. We also had a Ride Against Cancer on October 20, 2012, including a
silent auction, active auction, and raffle. All proceeds went to the John Wayne Cancer
Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. We raised $2,200.00
on this benefit.
We Just had a trip from Plano, Texas to Washington, DC .We are hoping to go before Congress to get funding for cancer research. At the present time, all of the funding is coming out of our own pockets. This is very important, as we are fighting for many lives and a cure for all cancer. We Did this in April. We are currently 1500 strong, with a chapter in Alaska and the United Kingdom.
I am committed to helping get the word out and
working to help find a cure for all cancers.
Thank you for your consideration
of helping with this effort. My contact

Sincerely,
Rick Kackley
