Nutrition Certification

Hello, my name is Ariana and here is the story that links the reasoning for my funding:

In my junior year of high school I was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Sarcoma. Although I was very lucky to catch it at an early stage, it still required two surgeries as well as five years of MRI's, Cat-scans and check ups at Moffitt cancer center . During this time I chose to stay close to home, work at my family's Martial Arts Studio and attend my local college, Hillsborough Community College. While at this school I found myself floundering around, trying to find what I really wanted to do. I am aware that this is a common occurrence among students but this particular school was incredibly unorganized which made it difficult to feel like I was on the right path. While attending this school I noticed a change with my body. It started off with small aches, pains and feeling fatigue but progressively got worse. As the aches intensified, it was more difficult to sit through a class, let alone attend, thereby forcing me to drop most of them. I finally decided to go to the doctor when I was unable to walk due to the extreme swelling in my feet. After three different doctors, blood test and examinations, I was finally diagnosed with the autoimmune disease, Psoriatic Arthritis. After being diagnosed I had to wait another four months to be approved for the medicine, Enbrel. I started feeling better and started up my classes again. After two semesters I developed a large red mark on my leg and started to feel very fatigued again, dropped more classes as my symptoms worsened and returned to the doctor, where I tested positive for Lyme disease. With my previous cancer and the new diagnosis, I learned that Enbrel was too much of a risk and had to discontinue it's use. Juggling school, work and my health problems was beginning to weigh down on me. I realized and decided to pick what was most important to me and focus only on that, my health. I found a doctor in Atlanta, Georgia who specialized in treating autoimmune diseases as well as Lyme disease. He treats his patients without the use of any intense medicines, so I decided quit my job and move to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia and make a commitment to getting better. I have been living here since June 2012 and have been intensively working on my health. It has been a very rewarding physical and mental healing process for me. I feel clearer and confident about my health, which I haven't felt in years. Because of this I am now able to think about receiving education in a better light, without any illness or disease holding me back.

I wanted to pursue an education that didn't put my health on the back burner. I strongly believe that we can help heal our bodies with the food that we choose to eat. With that said, I recently received my certification in Permaculture. Permaculture includes gardening techniques that work with each individual ecosystem, creating organic and sustainable food.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permaculture ) It has been a few weeks since I received the certification and I am now wanting to compliment it with a certification in Nutrition (from the Institute for Intergrative Nutrition). Taking care of our bodies is a constant and there is no better way than educating ourselves about the food that we eat and how it affects us individually. My ultimate goal is to be able to treat myself while advising others about their nutritional needs. After learning about what their bodies need, I would like to use my permaculture certification to install a garden that would grow specific foods for specific symptoms. Not only will this process help treat the symptoms, it will help the client to make a positive connection with the food that they consume. Unfortunately, I am not in the financial situation to afford the nutrition certification and am outreaching for help."¨"¨Although it seems as though treating my health issues has set me back with school, I truly believe that I am more able to take advantage of education with the mindset I have now. I feel strong, excited and completely ready for a new education.

If you're a donator, your money will be going towards an education and experience that I will forever have with me and be grateful for. Not only do I plan to create a sustainable environment for myself with my education but to help others succeed as well, creating self sufficient homes and edible gardens and healthy bodies. Your donation is not for a material object, but for a tangible education, which I will not abuse but will always use. I will forever be thankful for any amount of donation. What I will be taught will benefit me truly and fulfill my genuine eagerness to learn and explore a sustainable lifestyle.

Who are you donating to?
I am a 24-year-old female with a true love for the outdoors. I grew up on a farm and have been rehabilitating all sorts wildlife for many years. I have adopted/cared for orphaned squirrels, raccoons, deer, etc. As well as my love for animals, I deeply enjoy working with children and have been for the past six years by instructing martial arts classes for kids ages 3-13. Growing up in the outdoors with animals has instilled in me what I believe to be one of the most important characteristics, compassion. With this trait I hope to always respect the land, animals and the natural environment around us. With my education I hope to genuinely make a positive difference.

Thank you and very kindly,
Ariana
