This project is to help me author The Aquaponics Book & Video Series
Help us teach others to live a healthier and more self sufficient lifestyle by providing them and their families with the tools and information they need to create their own aquaponic greenhouse system on any budget!
Overview
"Aquaponics is the process of growing fruits, veggies and fish in a self sustaining environment."
We will start by building a 12' x 12' permanent wooden greenhouse utilizing over 60% recycled materials. Each step of the building process will be documented and available through several mediums including:
1. Our online blog at TheAquaponicsGreenhouse.org
2. A complete online high definition video series publicly available on our YouTube Channel. Instructional videos will also be available on our site as well as a DVD.
3. Digital download of all plans used in the project with additional plans available for individuals who would like to use alternative building methods.
4. Hardcover, softcover books available through Amazon.
Once the greenhouse project is complete we will dive in to the building of a fully operational be and flow auquaponics system! Utilizing a 275 gallon food grade IBC tote, we will construct our grow beds and towers that can produce over 500 healthy plants year round!
Our educational series will include all the topics needed to fully understand how to build and run your own system from beginning to end. We will aslo show everyone how to maintain their system once its up and running.
Our minimum goal is to raise $1700.00 in order for use to properly build, document and operate a complete self sustaining system. We would also like the ability to provide information on alternative building methods and materials people can use for their own projects. For example, our system will be built using old recycled windows but we would like to create examples using alternative methods such as twin wall polycarbonate panels, poly carbonate film. The same applies to the aquaponics system it's self. We will be building our grow beds from wood but we would also like to demonstrate alternatives such as barrel and IBC floating raft systems.
If we exceed our goals we would like to also other fun and interesting options such as:
1. Using your compost pile to heat your greenhouse in the cold months.
2. Solar powered Computer controlled ventilation and pump monitoring.
3. How to use a small pond to run your system.
There are also some resources we want to add online to help people such as:
1. Online growing calendar.
2. Detailed map and directory of aquaponic suppliers and reviews.
3. calculators for determining system volume, pump requirements and more.
4. I am also in the process of talking with an organic heirloom seed provider so we can offer a seed store right from our website.
