Howdy! My name is Andrea Saavedra and I'm from the small town of Pearsall, Texas, which you have probably never heard of. I graduated in the top 10% of my 150 student graduation class. I very much love turtles, food and travelling. My heart was set on becoming an Aggie and I got accepted into Texas A&M University,where I'm currently studying Biological and Agricultural Engineering with a focus in Environmental and Natural Resource Engineering.
Through my major's Study Abroad program, I was accepted into the Belgium Enviromental Science & Engineering program in Leuven, Belgium. In Belgium, I will be studying Enviromental Hydrology and Biological Waste Treatment Systems, which is directly correlated with what I want to have a career in.
I've had my heart set on travelling and dedicating my life to those in need. With my degree, I plan to become a volunteer in the Peace Corps and work with underdeveloped countries on developing water treatment systems for water consumption use. My biological and agricultural background gives me the advantage to not only help with the treatment of water, but also the ability to problem solve and trouble shoot different areas in the agricultural sector, which I plan to utilize in the Peace Corps.
After my time volunteering in the Peace Corps, I'm not too sure what I plan to do. If I like it so much, I would like to stay and help other undeveloped areas. If my life decides to take a different route, I would very much like to stay in the conservation and sustainability realm of work, possibly working for the Texas Commision on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). I simply want to make a difference and enforce change where need be with my talents in this lifetime.
I am from a very small town, where very little was given to me. I work very hard for what I have, and will continue to work hard for what I will obtain and achieve in the future.
Studying abroad is expensive, and I am currently trying by any means to meet my financial goal for this trip. Any donation is very much appreciated, big or small. You have no idea what your contribution means to me, and how far it can take me towards my lifetime goals.
