Ale's Volunteer Trip
Hello Friends and Strangers :)
For those of you who do not know me, thank you for stopping by! My name is Alejandra Tamez, I am from Monterrey, Mexico, and I am 27 years old. I moved to the US in 2001 and I currently reside in the nation's capital.
I am here to raise support and ask for prayers for my upcoming 1 year+ trip to Mexico/Central America. I was recently in Somotillo, Nicaragua, with an amazing ministry called Because We Care (bwcm.org) There I learned about the people, their culture and their needs. I was reminded of the extreme poverty that sometimes we choose to ignore or maybe just forget about, nontheless, it is the sad daily reality of so many. 2.7 billion live on under $2.00 a day.
Over there, we provided medical aid in the villages and we gave people food, clothing and shoes. Most importantly we shared with them the gospel of Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
As a result of this trip, my faith has grown deeper and stronger and I decided I want to go serve and help as much as I can in whatever way God wants me to help. I will be going back to Nicaragua for two weeks to learn, hug, serve, play soccer with the kids :P interpret, and minister to the beautiful Nica people. After that, I will be going to another city in Nicaragua near Chinandega and volunteering with AIM (Adventures.org) that ministry is called New Song Mission (http://newsongnica.org/) I will be at an orphanage teaching english to over 200 children and teens with a group of women.
In June/July I am planning on going to Costa Rica to help with several ministries there, more specifically I will be working with a missionary family. They are planting churches, helping out at an orghanage, and teaching ESL. I will also be interpreting and helping in a single mom's ministry in the slumps. My plan is to stay there as long as I am needed and as long as God wants me there.
None of these organizations will be paying me, but some will provide for my stay. I need to raise support for my travel expenses and food.
