3rd Stop - Abernathy Road to Rio 2016

Donation protected

Year ONE in our Road to Rio was a HUGE SUCCESS! Your participation through encouragement and donations gained notice on the international stage:.WOW!....and now we are setting up for year TWO!

After a 9th and 3rd place finish at the World Ranking Event in Santiago, Chile last week, my rookie archery year is nearly over. What some said "˜was nigh impossible' in two ways "“ first that a rookie could score as I have after only 11 months in the sport and second that a senior citizen could have such an impact on the archery community. My sincere thanks to all of you that supported me on my 1st and 2nd Stops on the Road to Rio 2016!

This was the year of trial to see if I still had the mettle to settle down and invest the time and effort to gain world-class proficiency in a new sport. I have done that. This next year must be a time of practice, practice and more practice in order to master the fine points of archery necessary to qualify for one of only 64 Olympic archery berths for women. The first World Archery qualifying tournament for 2016 Olympics is less than two years away!

The refined training that I need is what I call my 3rd Stop on the Road to Rio. The funding will allow me to attend an elite training camp with National Team Coach Ruth Rowe full time while working hand-in-hand with a team of professionals from the Roselle Center for Wellness, including an applied kinesiologist, personal trainer and nutritionist. This training is critical preparation for the 2014 season which includes tournaments for the World Cup, Central America and Caribbean Games, and the Pan American Olympic Festival.

In closing, I have to relate one more issue. This effort, this partnership to get me to Rio, is gaining attention worldwide. Can this be done? Even members from numerous international sports communities and associations are watching! Your contributions and my intense effort to become an Olympic archer are changing the way adult sporting is perceived!

The Olympics are not just for the youth, but for the young at heart. So, I thank you for joining me and thank you for your continued encouragement and support!
