A New School Means a Brighter Future
Tax deductible
For a while I have thought about building schools in underpriviledged parts of the world. The thought was triggered when a friend came back from serving in a small school in Africa. I asked her how much it would cost to build one of these schools.
I was blown away! For less than the price of a nice new car, hundreds of lives can be changed for good. Think of the long lasting effects. It is really exciting.
My plan was that I would become wealthly and then use my wealth to build schools, feed the starving, clothe the naked, etc. So what is the problem with this idea? There is no guarantee I will be wealthly and I will lose valuable time working towards some future date. So why wait?
Today I discovered a charity that was doing exactly what I wanted. It is Pencils of Promise. For $25,000, we can build a school right now! They have already built 206 schools since 2009 and build a new one every 90 hours. That is somewhere around 32 schools a year.
Just thinking of how little this takes makes me excited. Just one generous person can make it happen today. Or 25 people giving $1,000. Even if it takes 25,000 people giving $1, it is very possible.
So how much will you give? Be generous and give until it hurts. A little inconvenience on our part will go a long way. Thanks!
