Help us Fund Malaya's Renal Biopsy

Donation protected

Her name is Malaya Aleksandra Irie. It means free, defender of men, happy and content. She is our universe; our source of bliss. In November 2013, barely 2 years old, she was diagnosed of having Nephrotic Syndrome: Minimal Change Disease. She has been admitted in the hospital twice, endured countless needle pricks and IV line insertions, and fought severe flares of too much infection. Her immune system was compromised when she started taking in methylprednisolone (Medrol)- the steroid that could treat her kidneys. She had several relapses for the past 6 months, and despite the number of medicines she is taking, we are, yet again faced with another relapse and her doctors advised a renal biopsy. We thought we are already in remission. The protein in her urine has gone down to 75 on the 1st week of May but, just 2 weeks after tapering her Medrol dosage, we observed periorbital edema again. We are back to the full dose-Malaya has Steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome. Tapering the Medrol dose affected her kidneys hence, the proteins started leaking to her urine again.

She is now two years old and it breaks our hearts that she has suffered the agonies of an adult already. Yet, through these trauma, she remains a happy, giggly, cheerful little girl. She loves to dance and draw and sing. She is very inquisitive. She is a fighter - enduring countless doctor's appointments, numerous urinalyis and bloodworks, taking in her medicines despite the bitter, bitter taste.
It has not been an easy journey. We are asking for help, any help at all to shoulder her renal biopsy and her medicines after. As of now, she is taking in a total of 8 medicines: Diflucan, INH, and Sumapen - to fight bacterial, fungal, and viral infections; Folart and Ferlin - vitamins and minerals for her blood; she has anemia, too; Calcium carbonate and Calcitriol - for her bones and for nutrient absorption; and Medrol - for her kidneys. We are asking for help because of the mounting expenses of her medicines, and a renal biopsy to finally confirm what's really wrong with her kidneys.
Thank you so much in advance to those who would bless us with their help and prayers.
