Fire Engine for Doboj
DEUTSCH / BHS
My name is Michael Hasler,
I am a native of Lörrach- Brombach, Germany . From 1996 to 2010, I was a member and volunteer of the Lörrach- Brombach Fire Department. Since 2011 I have lived and worked in Banja Luka in Bosnia.
I am experiencing the catastrophic Balkan Flood first-hand.
While the city of Banja Luka (c. 250 thousand inhabitants) has for the most part managed to avoid severe destruction the situation in the immediate vicinity is cataclysmic.
As a former volunteer of the Lorrach-Brombach Fire Department I felt compelled to volunteer my services to the local fire department in the extremely flooded Bosnan city of Doboj (c. 40 thousand inhabitants). While there I noted that the Doboj Fire Department had lost seven vehicles, which were simply swept away by the flood waters. The water had risen to 5 m.
Not only have they lost such essential and valuable machines, they have also lost crucial safety equipment and clothing such as helmets, jackets, pants , hoses and pumps .
This is why I have decided to start a fundraising campaign specifically for the fire service in Doboj which is also supported by my former german firebrigade comrades.
If we are successful in collecting the funds necessary to purchase a fire engine we will seek a suitable fire engine from the German used fire engine market. We shall be seeking a four wheel drive Fire Engine matching the TLF (Water Tender) or LF (Fire Truck) specifications and shall arrange its transfer to Doboj, some 800 miles.
We shall keep the website updated with the current funds raised, offering links to sponsors where appropriate.
The Fundraiser is proposed to run from 26/05/2014 to 08/07/2014
With greatest thanks,
Michael
