Tricia's Cancer Treatment Expenses

Donation protected
I am trying to raise money to pay my sister Tricia’s medical bills as a result of her recent surgery for colon cancer. Tricia is one of the strongest and hardest working women I have ever known in my life. She has worked since she was 16 years old. Her steadfast belief in hard work, independence, and self-reliance is so strong that she would often work two jobs to support herself and her children. However, it is Tricia who is now in need of support from others.

In May 2015, my sister started a new job in the office of a thriving medical practice. She absolutely loved her new job, and was looking forward to working there for the next 10-15 years--until she was eligible for retirement. The only drawback was that she would have to wait six months before receiving benefits (medical, PTO, etc.). She was so excited about her new job, however, and felt that this was a small price to pay for an opportunity to work in the new office. She just hoped that she would stay as healthy as possible during those months.

In a strange twist of fate, Tricia was diagnosed with a large tumor on her colon on Friday, July 17, 2015, and had surgery the very next day--at a time when she was without insurance for the first time in well over a decade. In addition to the surgery, she had several blood transfusions because of a dangerously low hemoglobin level. My sister now needs chemotherapy because the cancer, while not evident in her lymph nodes, is in her blood stream. Tricia’s oncologist told her that unfortunately, she will not be able to start chemotherapy until she can make a payment towards treatment. At this point, my sister has no choice but to delay chemotherapy until her insurance coverage begins in November.

Since Tricia has no source of income at this time and skyrocketing medical bills, I am trying to raise money for her medical and household expenses until she is able to return to work. She is much more comfortable giving to others, so it would likely be difficult for her to ask for help on her own. She really needs help at this point and as her sister, I will do whatever I can to keep her spirits up and make sure she receives the medical care she needs until she is able to return to the workforce. I have always had the benefit of medical care, so it has been quite sobering and painful to watch my sister worry about medical bills and household expenses at a time when her focus needs to be on recovery from cancer and regaining her health. I would greatly appreciate any assistance I can get from those of you on gofundme.com.
