Sampson's Guardian Angel

Hello, my name is Sampson and at 4 days old, I was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect and had to undergo major open heart surgery. It was a long road to recovery, and doctor's at the time were not able to tell me how extensive the brain damage would be until I got older. I am growing up to be a very active, loving, and energetic three year old. However, recently I was diagnosed with moderate autism and the doctors are linking it to my heart condition that I have had since birth.

Unlike many children my age, I suffer from severe emotional outbursts, I'm unable to really communicate well, and "bolt" the second I run out of the door. Socially it is hard for me to fit in at school and I am trying very hard at 3 years old to cope with a serious disability, while understanding my limitations with my heart.

My mommy takes great care of me, but as a single parent working 45+ hours a week, She needs some help. My mommy  knows the upcoming medical needs that I will need, and there is one area that I am pleading with the community to help me with.

My hope is to be able to get my very own autistic trained service dog that is through the Service Dogs for Independance. It is a non-profit organization that trains service dogs to assist children (like me)with bolting, emotional outbursts, and helps comfort them when I start to fall into the repetitive behaviors that most children with autism do. The cost is substantial ($9,000), and as a single mom, I know that my mommy is not able to do it alone.

I believe that this service dog will offer me a chance at a normal life. Granted, social acceptance is hard at any age, but just knowing that there would be a service dog there to hopefully help others understand my condition/disability, to keep me safe and not bolting, and to offer emotional support to me when an emotional outburst occurs would help me so much. There is a harness that I would be attached directly to my service dog to help keep me safe.

I know there are a lot of needs out there, so I am asking that you keep me and our family in your heart and prayers and hopefully perhaps you could make a contribution of some kind. Whether it be to host a dinner, do a fundraiser, or anything that you could think of. Even if all you do is offer prayers to me and my mommy as we tackle this diagnosis together as I would be so blessed.

Thank you for visiting my page and I hope you can help me get my guardian angel that will take care of me and help me be the person I know I can be.

Love,
Sampson
