Help Us Create a Makerspace!

Once our high school library rennovation project is completed (Oct/Nov 2014) we would like to start a Makerspace program. A Makerspace is a gathering space for students to be creative. It's a space rich with learning opportunities. Students and mentors collaborate, and students learn to be innovative. We have around 3700 students in our district, with close to 60% of them being economically disadvantaged.
We would like to give them opportunities they might not have normally. Give them hope and self confidence.
We would like to start with a few projects in our Makerspace to get students hooked. Once we do that, we would like students to come up with their own ideas of what they would like to like to learn.
The first few projects we would like to do are:
Makey Makeys - students use these invention kits to be creative. Make a piano out of bananas, use common office tools to make video game controllers, etc.
LED Throwies - students wire LEDS to create simple glow lights that can stick to any magnetic surface. http://www.instructables.com/id/LED-Throwies/
Green Screen Video Editing - using the green screen to create videos
Tooth Brush Robots - use common toothbrushed to create robots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUSTXUis_ys
