TheObligation.US (2014)

The Obligation: U.S. (the governments obligation to provide education)
The Obligation: Us (the people's obligation to start a movement that will create an educational system for adults)
The Obligation: us (our individual obligation to help; buy one and we'll donate one)

                                        The Obligation.US

Help us kickstart a fundamental reform, by providing an easy way for all adults who lack a GED or high school diploma (especially ex-felons and the marginalized) to go to school so they can obtain stable and meaningful employment.

"a citizens' funded and crowdsourced path from hopelessness to hope"

                                                 The Idea

The system has failed us. However, more than 90% of Americans link that failure to those who suffer the most: the ones who did not graduate from high school. But, it's not that simple.

Our politicians ignore this problem or spend their time on "more important issues." While America declines, they spend endless time kicking the can down the road.

These "more important issues" hold our uneducated masses hostage. We want to pay the ransom, and free them.

We're kickstarting a movement that will initiate programs to make it easy for uneducated adults, regardless of their age or economic condition, to acquire the skills needed (especially the ability to use the internet) to obtain stable and meaningful employment now and in the future.

We don't need to export jobs because our people aren't educated. We don't need to make other nations wealthy while our people fall further from the American Dream.

                                            To "Kickstart"

This movement will be launched through a one-for-one program: buy one book and we'll donate one book to an organization that provides food, clothing and/or shelter or education services to motivated adults: national organizations like the Salvation Army and Goodwill and local organizations, especially those dedicated to helping those who truly need it the most.

We will set funding goals.

The idea is simple: You do well by doing good. Buy one book for $8.00 (including shipping and handling) or four books for $20. Every purchase improves the lives of at least one other person.

                                     Will you answer the call?

                                     Please pledge if you can.

Please share this site with everyone you can.

                                        And please know this:

We have the power to help those who need it the most.

                                          We will, if you help.

We want to create awareness of the problems associated with poor education, namely: drug abuse, homelessness, crime and prison. We want to kickstart a movement that will create a path from hopelessness to hope.

Society has an obligation to educate its members: period. We can't just continue to only provide an opportunity to the young; we can't just continue to promote undeserving students to the next grade, (thus "kicking the can" down the road and making it the next teacher's problem), we can't just wait until they drop-out; and we can't just blame those who drop out for their failure to obtain a proper education which prepares them for stable and meaningful employment.

Where do motivated but uneducated adults get another chance? Where do they have the opportunity to learn the basics: typing, MS Office, the Internet? Today there is no easy way for adults to obtain an education. Yes, there are "make believe" solutions, and there are difficult solutions. But, were there a system to educate adults as the system to educate children, many of society's problems (drug abuse, crime, unemployment, overtaxed health care) would not exist today.

As such, we need an easy means for motivated, but not educated, adults to acquire the skills necessary to obtain stable and meaningful employment on their own.

One easy way to kickstart this reform is to create a win-win solution: you win and you help others win. Purchase "Remember This..." book of the classic poems, prayers and speeches, ($8.00 for one or $20 for four) and we will donate one book to an organization that assists those losing hope of ever obtaining stable and meaningful employment. Each of us can help create a path from hopelessness to hope.
