Winter's surgery

Winter is our almost-four-year-old working cocker spaniel. He's an amazing dog: loving, loyal and so fun to be around. We adore him! However, he is also my ten-year-old son's agility dog and absolute best buddy.

My son has trained Winter himself for three years now and the difference it has made to our family is incredible. He has transformed from a painfully shy little lad, into a proficient, confident dog handler. It has been a long journey, but they're a fantastic team and have learned so much for from each other.

Unfortunately, this week Winter badly damaged his cruciate ligament, which is a really common injury in dogs. We, of course, have pet insurance, but as the costs of x-rays and specialists mount up, the company won't pay the full amount and this leaves us with some difficult decisions. Winter's condition can be managed, but the specialist has recommended surgery, followed by physio. If he is to continue to train and compete at agility again, then it's absolutely essential.

No matter the outcome, Winter will be loved and cared for as our amazing family companion, but it would just mean so much to us if he could get back to full fitness and that's why we are asking for donations. I have already listed all of my agility equipment for sale to partially fund the surgery and my son is planning some sponsored events too.
