THE 8TH FIRE PROPHECY RUN - For Eternal Peace

Donation protected
Our Story:
For generations, the Seven Fires (prophecies) have guided the Anishinaabeg people, foretelling a time of great transition and offering hope for spiritual renewal. We have no arrived at a crossroads in the Seventh Fire - one path leading to destruction, the other towards eternal peace.

On April 8, 2024, during peak total solar eclipse over the First Fire settlement Mooniyaang (Montreal), the sacred Eighth Fire Prophecy began. By ceremonially dipping an eagle staff into the waters, we embarked on an ancestral journey to retrace the path of our ancestors across Turtle Island. Our purpose is to awaken this ancient prophecy, guide our youth onto the prophesied path of eternal peace, and achieve meaningful reconciliation by establishing an Eighth Fire settlement led by proposing the Grand Turtle Island Indigenous Museum (GTIIM).

The Goal: $1,000,000 (To Start)
Every dollar raised will fuel this historic 10,000 km run across Turtle Island and towards realizing the Eighth Fire settlement, but first covering:
  • Sustenance for 12-15 full-time runners ($150,000)
  • Transportation, team support, costs ($100,000)
  • Educational materials, outreach, free merchandise expenses ($100,000)
  • Seed donation to GTIIM ($1,000,000)
By contributing, you can help accelerate the future of indigenous youth and help us achieve in building a Village of Peace in the Eighth Fire.

The Route of the Eighth Fire Prophecy Run across Turtle Island:

The Urgency:
Kelly Dale Edwards, Project Lead of the Run, is Anishinaabeg from Sagkeeng & Lake Manitoba First Nation of Treaty 1 & 2.

"As an honor student who did no wrong, the human rights violations I experienced showed me how quickly reconciliation was becoming undone. Now, reconciliation feels like an empty word to me and my family," - Kelly Dale Edwards (Flying Wolf Man)

Our indigenous sovereignty, cultural traditions, and the path to true reconciliation are under threat. Corporate interests protected by colonial authorities continually disregard our ancestral laws, driving our youth down a path of destruction. We cannot allow this cycle of injustice to continue.

The time has come to build this prophesied Village of Peace in Sagkeeng as the Eighth Fire settlement, where all nations gather as equals on sovereign land in the interest of eternal peace and reconciliation.

The Impact:
Your support will unite indigenous nations across Turtle Island, asserting our sovereignty, revitalizing our cultural lawmaking traditions, and achieving meaningful reconciliation. Together, we can establish Sagkeeng as the Eighth Fire settlement, nurturing generations of indigenous students inspired to uphold our spiritual and cultural traditions.

As the Eighth Fire settlement, Sagkeeng seeks to build youth are proposing to build the Grand Turtle Island Indigenous Museum (GTIIM) to kickstart meaningful reconciliation and achieve this vision of peace. The run aims to bring awareness and fundraise for GTIIM so indigenous-led history and this turtle-shaped national cultural history museum will positively impact our future Eighth Fire youths.

"The vision [Sagkeeng elder] Dave [Courchene Jr.] received was of a Turtle Lodge and a Village of Peace... People of every color were coming out of these lodges and walking toward the central lodge," - www.TurtleLodge.org/About

Realizing GTIIM
We are currently working on incorporating GTIIM as a sovereign entity collectively owned by all indigenous nations—which requires more collaboration. Once our goal of $250,000 is reached for the 8th Fire Run, excess will be donated to GTIIM with a seed goal of $1 million. As it stands, GTIIM is still a grassroots youth-led project and needs resources to grow. Every contribution helps!

Sagkeeng Frontrunners
In honor of the Seventh Fire residential school survivors and Sagkeeng Frontrunners who carried the 1967 Pan Am torch to Winnipeg but were denied entry into the stadium, the Eighth Fire Prophecy Run honors their legacy and continues ancestral traditions of making change.
