Small Business Start Up Funds
My husband and I decided to start a hand crafted metal art and furnishings business last year after he had shown me some beautiful furniture that he had built for our home. He has over 30 years of welding experience and so the craftsmanship of the pieces is remarkable. For the last year, we have been focused on the local market here in Mabank, TX. We do business with locals because as a small business, it's the community that you lean on when first starting out. We have been running this business strictly off of our own financial investments. We did not seek out loans or grants or investors. For us, it was important to not start a business out owing anyone money. That decision was based more on integrity than anything. A small business is either going to make it or break it within the first 5 years. I personally couldn't stomach knowing that people invested in us and we failed to deliver a successful company.
For the time being, we have been generating business via word of mouth, craft shows/festivals, and local consignment arrangements in our local community.

Although the costs are relatively low to sell in those venues, they are just simply not providing us with the kinds of revenues that we need to purchase and maintain equipment, fabricate inventory, or advertise. Advertising and marketing is where we are falling short and I believe that if we were able to advertise and market our product in the way it should be, our success would be astronomical.
What we are asking is simply this, anyone that feels inclined to help out a small local US business; it would be very much appreciated. Helping out a small local US business not only assists individuals with a goal and dream, but it precipitates into the local US economy.
