Dear Friends,

I come to everyone right now in a great time of need and in the biggest battle of my life so far. Right now I need all the help I can get between anyone that is willing to help. I'm asking for donations to help with my legal defense fund. My parents are out of money and I'm out of money so now I'm praying that anyone willing to read my story would be willing to donate. Please if you can donate $1, $5, $10, $20 or whatever you can affored my family will be forever grateful.Anyone that knows me knows I'm not stupid enough to risk my family, job, or freedom for what I'm being accused of. I ask that you share my story and ask your friends, family, and even church if they would be willing to help. Thank You in Advance!!!
My name is Jeffrey Kong and I'm a 33 year old married father of 3 kids. I've been married to my wife Mindy for 8 years. We have 3 beautiful children Madison, Noelle, and Brady. For the past couple of years my wife has been a stay at home mom to care for our children as my job required me to transfer.
A little back story on my life is I was adopted at the age of 7 or 8 but came to live with my adopted family at the age of 5. My family picked me up from the UCLA neuropsychiatric institute. I was placed there at UCLA due to a wide range of behavior that was a result of major child abuse I sustained as a 2-5 year old. I sustained a lot of verbal, physical, and sexual abuse and around the time of my 2nd birthday I was burned in both ears with acid. The result of the burns left me with very visible scars and with a hearing problem for life. I have had over 2 dozen ear surgeries along with other surgeries for different body parts.
As a result of the abuse growing up I harbored a lot of anger so I was placed in therapy to work on my problems and after years of this I came out of it a very happy go lucky kid with a new lease on life. I learned that talking about your problems was healthy. Being honest with myself and those around me was the only way to continue to solve problems in life.
One of the core things my parents did growing up was to have me attend church. I became very active in church during my Jr. High School years and my High School Years. During these years and after high school I did a total of 7 mission trips to Mexico. I was a volunteer for our church youth group for a number of years and invested a lot of time in the youth of our church. This honor to volunteer was only given because of the trust that the church as a whole had with me and other leaders. I was also a volunteer and staff member for Calvin Crest Conferences which is a Christian based summer camp that holds many retreats and outdoor education programs for kids and adults. I was a volunteer counselor for a number of years and staff for a full year. I was even asked and moved to Georgia and Alabama for a year to help volunteer to assist with a church youth program and another summer camp.
I grew up in the church and have many times been called upon to tell my testimony of my life because of my willingness to be open and honest about it and share with anyone that would listen. My personality is very mild mannered and I'm pretty soft spoken. I've worked hard in my life to get where I was and that has all been taken away.
Right now I'm in the fight of my life because I am being accused of Fraud and Lying. I have been fired from my job as a Correctional Officer that I held for 5 years. I'm currently facing Felony charges in Kern County for this alleged act and it is absolutely devastating. We have lost everything just about right now.
My family of 5 are currently living in a single bedroom with a family member that has an extra room to lend. We lost our home we were renting, I've lost my job, and to be honest I'm not sure what the next thing to be lost is. I'm barely able to hold on to our cars right now and can't afford to lose them because we are actively seeking employment but to no avail. If anyone reading this knows of someone that would hire me please please tell me.
Why am I being accused of Workers Compensation Fraud? This is a very good question that I still really don't know the answer to. I'm being accused of hiding 2 previous injuries from back in 2000 and 2001. What is being referred to as injuries are not injuries and will never be considered injuries in my opinion.
In 2000 I played Tennis for my high school and also played for College of the Sequoias. We would play tennis between 3-4 hours a day for usually 5-6 days a week. Because of the continued pounding I gave my body my lower back had some discomfort and pain. I went to the doctor for this and he prescribed physical therapy and some pain meds. I did a couple weeks' worth of therapy and stopped after I leaned new stretches. Physical Therapy is like having a personal trainer at the gym in my view.
In July of 2001 while I worked on staff at Calvin Crest just north of Oakhurst I had a back spasm in the upper left part of my back that radiated down my leg after a long day of playing basketball and ultimate Frisbee. This was a result of not properly hydrating myself. This spasm occurred around 10-11pm and since Oakhurst Urgent Care was closed they took a precautionary step and sent me to Saint Agnes in Fresno by ambulance. I was released to my parents within 2 hours.
Acting on the advice of my doctors I was told to have an MRI which I did in September of 2001. I had the MRI on my back and never heard anything back from it regarding results so I just assumed everything was fine and went about of my life.
From this point in my life I held different jobs such as Instructional Assistant for Kings County Office of Education, Stockroom helper at Sears, Tulare County Probation, and eventually CA Department of Corrections. Each job required me to be physically fit and required a high level of honesty and integrity. I passed 2 through backgrounds and 2 medical clearances in which consent was given for release of all medical records.
In June of 2010 I had a few days where my back went out and I went to the doctor and was cleared to go back to work by my physician. No real reason why this happened since I woke up and just couldn't move out of bed. I could only think this was a result of stress since my grandfather was dying and we were making many trips from Hanford to San Jose and for the fact that my wife was pregnant with twins.
July 23, 2010 while at work my back went out completely and I was sent from work to the ER in Bakersfield. I told the ER doc about what had happened 5-6 weeks prior and told him it wasn't the result of an injury. I was asked if I had any previous back injuries I stated no and still continue to say no.
I've been accused of Hiding and lying about 2000 and 2001 incidents and therefor charges have been brought against me. There was no financial gain for being off work and I was off work for a total of 15 months due to the work policy that there is no light duty. I was cleared by doctors to return to work but with limitations and work would not let me come back. During this time work turned my case in as a fraud claim because they said I was faking an injury to be off work to be with my kids. This is 100% untrue as anyone that has kids knows you can't provide for newborns very well if you aren't working.
If you look at my extensive medical history I think you can understand why I answered the questions the way I did. There no was lying involved and no dishonesty involved and I took my oath as a peace officer very serious. For a person to commit Fraud there has to be intent and anyone that knows me knows that would never in a million years be the case with me. I ask that you find it in your heart to donate to help our family out.
