GSL Keeping NJ History Free for All

Donation protected
Garden State Legacy (GSL) is a free online quarterly magazine and educational website devoted to the history of New Jersey.

Since I founded it in 2008, to date, GSL has published 25 issues of its online magazine containing over 130 articles by over 35 authors. On the GSL website, you can find a directory of over 200 NJ history groups, museums, archives, and other resources. The GSL Speakers Bureau promotes over 30 speakers on a wide variety of history topics for groups. And, we've recently launched the new GSL online museum, Treasured Artifacts of the Garden State, featuring over 80 artifacts from over 40 institutions and growing.

And all this has been made available to the NJ history community for FREE.

Why?

Because I believe that your ability to learn from your history should depend more on the depth of your curiosity than the depth of your pockets.

Rather than charge for access to this information, I have adopted a "pay what you can" model. If you can't afford to pay a cent, you are still able to enjoy and learn from GSL. But if you appreciate what GSL provides to the NJ history community and can afford to help keep it economically viable, I ask that you consider making a donation that fits your budget.

In short, I need GSL to make enough money for me to justify the amount of time I spend working on it, so I can pay some bills and meet my obligations without having to give up on giving something back to a history community that has given me so much!

Here is a video from the site where I explain the philosophies behind what GSL is all about:

By supporting my devotion to GSL, you are assuring that the services it provides will remain free to those who could least afford it otherwise - students, non-profit organizations, people on fixed incomes, etc.

Does a free GSL really make a difference? Consider these quotes from actual GSL subscribers:

“Living out-of-state without a car and not near many that I know is no fun, and living on social security survivors [benefits] is very limiting financially. Your GSL cheers me with every issue with the history and memories of N.J. Thank you!” - L.B.

“All money we make goes back into our living history programs at schools and historic sites. Wish we could do more.” - John C.

“I’m a student with loan debt who has to work extra jobs to make ends meet. I have always liked NJ history and appreciate being able to indulge that with GSL. I don’t know I could continue if I had to pay for it.” - O.D.

(By the way, GSL is on Facebook, but since it is linked to my personal page, it's my personal one that comes up on GoFundMe. Since I wish to keep the two things separate, click here to visit to GSL's page directly. We also have a YouTube page and Twitter!)

Thank you!
