BRINGING NICA HOME.
I first arrived in Nicaragua in early Feb. After spending a few weeks surfing and chilling we headed down to San Juan Del Sur, which is where I first met Nica. Nica was a skinny little puppy, tied up on the side of the street, with no water or shade from the afternoon sun. I instantly fell in love with this tiny black dog, and without much consideration for the consequences and a lot of bargainning with her shifty "owner", Nica was mine. At first the things worrying me were, how do you train a puppy? But she was a smart dog, and was so sweet and loving that none of it was a problem. However the problem really, is that everything is turning out to be much more expensive than i first anticipated. Nica has grown and travelled with me for over 2 months and is amazing. So many people offer to take her off my hands so i can go home, but even though they would all give her awesome homes i cant part with her. So far we have crossed 2 borders together, ridden on many, many buses, in the backs of trucks, hitch hiked, slept in the same hammock, and on the same floor. At the moment we are headed towards California to gain a puppy passport and go home, but after checking my bank balance against the price of flights and vaccinations for the puppy, its looking really hard and almost impossible. Not only are the flights so exspensive, because of regulations of which airlines i can fly with when bringing a dog into the UK, but also i need to minimise air travel time to lessen the stress put on the pup. This means flying pretty directly, in peak season, with a dog. The price of bringing a dog from the States to England is looking around 400 dollars, plus rabies vaccination, microchip, a travel container, and border fees.
I dont want to be one of those people who falls in love with a puppy on their travels, then leaves them heartbroken when it all becomes to much of a mission. Trying to raise this money is an attempt to do everything i can to bring my lovely pup home. Thanks for taking the time to read this, muchos gracias and love.
