I currently work with special education students that require Specialized Academic Instruction outside of their regular education classroom. We work on improving their academic abilities, strengthening their social skills and giving them the tools they need to succeed! Many of our students have had limited exposure to extra-curricular activities coming from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Our students will be able to go on a once in a lifetime fishing experience! Through this trip, students will be able to access knowledge in the field of marine biology and oceanography. More specifically, the students will be learning about the natural island environment, sea life, and responsibility while working with peers and professionals. This trip will give students a hands-on opportunity to explore a unique area of science and help enhance their interests in learning.
The students in special education at Lincoln are curious, fun-loving and excited to learn! Many of our students have expressed interest in marine biology studies considering we live on the Southern California coast and a stones throw away from the Channel Island's National Park. Our special education team is excited about the opportunity to expand the horizons and help them make memories they can take back to their general education classroom and peers. Additionally, the students and staff at Lincoln will have a lifelong appreciation of this trip and those people that helped them get there!
The trip costs approximately $1,500 for the 15 students that we plan to take. This cost includes their boat tickets, lunches, fishing gear rentals, and fish filleting assistance. The cost per student is $100 and we'd love to be able to help any staff we can attend.
