Astoria Music Festival Tuition

Donation protected
Hello! Thank you for looking at my page! My name is Phoebe Gildea, and my dream is to be an opera singer. I am asking you to help me further that dream by making it possible for me to participate in the Astoria Music Festival this summer. I have been accepted into the Vocal Apprentice Program and offered the role of Despina in Mozart's Così fan tutte.

I have been studying voice for most of my life. I recently graduated from Chapman University with a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance and a Bachelor of Arts in music, which I used to focus on music history. Locally, I have appeared in the Oregon Bach Festival and Eugene Opera Chorus. Last November, I made my operatic debut as Lauretta in the Eugene Opera Artist Mentor Program production of Gianni Schicchi. I studied and performed internationally in Graz, Austria two years ago with the American Institute of Musical Studies. I will by applying to graduate school in opera performance in the next year. I am currently studying with Ruth Dobson in Portland.

This program in Astoria is an excellent opportunity for me to study intensively, learn from professionals in my field, and get stage experience. I am so excited to play Despina, who has been one of my favorite characters in opera ever since I started this journey.

Tuition is $1,250 and housing is $625. I have rounded my goal up to $2000 because I will have to provide my own transportation, meals, and music ($83), as well as other incidental expenses. The program is a full-time commitment, and I will not be able to work while I am there.

Thank you so much for your consideration. Every little bit helps, and even donating $1 will earn you my gratitude and hugs.

Below are recordings of some of my recent work.

In "O mio babbino caro" from Giacomo Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Lauretta pleads with her father to help her so that she can marry Rinuccio, whom she has long loved.

"Open the Window" from Bernard Herrman's Wuthering Heights is Catherine's death scene. She promises her lover, Heathcliff, that she will never truly leave him because she is so much a part of the home that she has loved.
