Hello, my name is Ashleigh.
Two years ago I began to suffer daily with constant nausea, fainting, muscular pain, and a number of other horrible symptoms. I was turned away from hospitals numerous times before eventually a specialist diagnosed me as having a rare auto immune illness known as Addison's Disease (or Schmidt's Syndrome).
While it was a relief to finally have a diagnosis, I had no idea of the struggles ahead. I already have Type One Diabetes and a Thyroid Disorder, which means I now have to take at least five injections and ten pills every day. We still haven't found the correct treatment for me and until we do I have to deal with symptoms such as: Extreme fatigue, abnormal drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal, back and rib pain, depression, muscular weakness, weight loss, Sodium deficiency, extreme low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, muscular cramps, chronic exhaustion, discolouration of skin, lips and scars, Hypoglycaemia, anxiety, dehydration, confusion and unconsciousness.
I know this sounds like a lot but generally I'm a happy, optimistic girl who will never take no as an answer, and I refuse to let my conditions define me. As I'm sure you can imagine, I'm not currently permitted to work, and sometimes staying afloat is difficult. I'm hoping to be able to study soon, an opportunity that I haven't had until now, so that what I learn can be used to help prevent the suffering I've been through in other people.
I haven't felt like a 'normal' person in a long time and I know that with some help I can finally begin to.
