Jane's Moving/Living Expenses
Hi there Everyone,
My name is Jane. I'm 22 years old, DMAB Non-binary, and transgender.
Last September I moved out to San Diego from Boston to stay with my brother for a little while, and over the past few months, I've had nothing but trouble. I wasn't prepared to adapt to this conservative city, and have been struggling A LOT to find a safe and comfortable place to stay.
I've held a number of jobs, but haven't been able to keep any because of the extreme unsafe nature of a lot of them. I have been fired from one job just for disclosing my gender identity, and from another (a supposed transgender rights non-profit) just for calling out ableism, racism, and cisgender privilege.
This last firing has hit me particularly hard, as I was just moving out of a violent and abusive housing situation. I've been without full time employment for a little over two months now, and have had to reach out to friends and family for help.
My current housing situation is also uncomfortable. I pay more than I can afford to live on a couch in a living room with people who are loud, intrusive, and disrespectful of my pronouns. I have heard people make rape jokes, go on anti-black racist tirades, and call me a "man" straight to my face. I can't stand to live there, and am bouncing around to couches around the city as we speak. This is no way to live.
Fortunately, I'm about to move in with a bunch of lovely queer and trans folks. We're trying to find a house together so that we can create a safe and comfortable space for ourselves to retreat to, relax in, and recharge from our stressful days. I have some money saved up, but I'm concerned that I will be unemployed for even longer, and need some money to carry me over in case I can't find (and keep) a job in the next month or two. Anything that you are willing to contribute would be INCREDIBLE. I'm really crossing my fingers for this one. Thanks y'all.
Love,
Jane
