On April 9th, 2015, my son, Joshua Brian Bronson, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Malignant Brain cancer. The following day he was admitted into Levine’s Children's Center in Charlotte, NC for intensive brain surgery. That same day, April 10th, 2015, he turned 8 years old and celebrated his birthday with his family at the family meeting center the hospital provided us with.
Over the past 4 months our family has remained positive and faithful that a miracle will happen. Joshua handled the first surgery, recovery and his first round of chemotherapy and radiation like a champ. With his soft spoken kindness and his ability to always smile, it is hard to lose hope in this situation. This little 8 year old boy has showed all of us what true bravery means.
Joshua has showed not only his brothers and sister (Madden, 10 Preston, 4 and Ashlyn, 3) that a diagnosis does not define you, but also proved to all of the adults that stand around him that we will not give up. Through-out all of the struggles that comes along with a terminal illness, has come the medical bills. Joshua finished his first round of chemotherapy and radiation in July and returned in late July for a post MRI. The results from these MRIs shock our family again when we learned the tumor had returned in the same place as before. The tumor is located on the back side of his brain where the spinal cord and brain stem meet. Unfortunately, the specialists and doctors have only seen a few rare cases of this type of cancer in children, and of those cases, none of which found a cure. Now Joshua has had a second surgery on August 12th, 2015. He is currently in ICU recovering now. We continue to make the best of our lives as we walk this long road hand in hand. We ask that anyone who is able to donate, pray or share our story that you will do so with the best intentions for my son.
