Bringing the Vietnam Wall to Simi Valley

WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS from Simi Valley, CA

When our Vietnam Veterans came home, there were no big homecomings or parades - unlike what you'd see today. Scorn and hurtful words replaced hugs and kisses. Many veterans felt that they needed to hide any trace of serving. Unfortunately, a lot of American civilians carried their angry feelings for the war over to those who served. Some believe The Vietnam Veterans Memorial helped change that mentality - and helped separate the war from the warrior. Some say that the Memorial helped people realize that all veterans deserved our country's respect.

Salute to Arms (STA), our annual event in Simi Valley, honors all veterans within the community. This year, STA joined mutually with the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, in remembrance of the 50th commemoration of the Vietnam War, we decided to bring the MOBILE VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL WALL  FOR THE ANTELOPE VALLEY (AVWALL.ORG)  to Simi Valley for the first time, from May 22 through May 27, to be placed at the Rancho Tapo Community Park and Veterans Plaza. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is meant to be a harmonious and solemn place to remember and give thanks to those who served and sacrificed for our nation. What better place to honor our Veterans than at the beautiful Veterans Plaza in Simi Valley.

The AV Wall is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington DC. The AV Wall measures approximately 252 feet long and 6 feet high at its apex, and it contains the engraved names of all 58,286 Vietnam Veterans killed in action and missing in action. The AV Wall organization will highlight our communities' lost heroes as well as all the others. It is meant to education our children about the war and Wall, and help heal our Veterans. Many programs are being planned around the community for this week long event. There are many costs involved with this project and that is why we are fundraising for it. It will be open to the public 24 hours, with point guards, staff, chaplains' and counselors for 6 days. There is in the plans Flyovers with the USS Enterprise Navy Jets offering the lost man manuever for the opening with TAPS, Bagpiopes and drum corps, color guards, speakers and music.

Fifteen men on that wall were from Simi Valley High school.  We want to bring them home in honor.  Please show your support for those who were shunned.  all proceeds go to helping them through carious Veterans Organizations who have been cut off by the Obama Administration, of which we are rasing funds for.

We are asking YOUR support in the funding of this honored event as a community. A financial contribution can be made directly to our GoFund account and it is tax dedutable.  (Rancho Simi Foundation EIN # 953376755)
