Help Mimi Find A Home

My mother is a victim of predatory lending and fraud in the inducement. She was forced out of her house, the one we lived in for 29 years, on September 10th. Having only her paltry income from Social Security, sporadic caricature jobs, and a minimum-wage part-time job, she couldn't afford a hotel. So her sister, who is living with breast cancer, took her and her cats in. The situation is extremely stressful. My aunt already has a cat and he's very upset by the presence of my mom's cats. The place is too small and cluttered for both of them. All of my mom's furniture and most of her belongings are in a storage facility. She doesn't even have a winter coat. The movers piled everything in so tightly that she can't get to anything.

My father died suddenly September 19th. He was my best friend, and he helped my mother legally to stay in that house longer than anyone thought she would. He also negotiated her moveout. I am beyond devastated. As was she, as she considered him a friend. They were married 18 years and even though they divorced a long time ago, he cared about and always expressed concern for her.
Because they'd been married over 10 years, her Social Security payment increased when he died. So she can actually afford the rent on a decent apartment.

But she can't get any apartment. Because they all either reject applicants with a foreclosure in their history or a bankruptcy, both of which happened to her.. Or else they want a cosigner, which she doesn't have. (My credit is shot from student loans and my income is less than hers anyway.)

My mother is the best, most generous person I know. She doesn't deserve to be homeless. She can't stay with her sister much longer. She needs her own place. But no one will even consider her. One place would, but asked for $4000 to move in. She doesn't have that. So I put this up to try to raise money hoping maybe a complex would not care so much about her past, if she had a large deposit but also in the hopes that someone who sees this might have an apartment to rent her. She wants to live in Montgomery County, where she has for decades. Ambler, Plymouth Meeting, Conshohocken, somewhere like that. And again, her income is enough to pay rent, just not "three times the rent" like many complexes ask for, and not enough to pay first, last, and security deposit.

I live in a tiny studio apartment with my boyfriend. There literally isn't even room for my mom here. I have done everything I could to help, including arguing in front of the Superior Court and standing outside the courthouse in Norristown with a sign on my chest. But I can't control the landlords and complexes that are turning her down. This is where we are forced to ask the public for help.

If you can help us come up with a big enough deposit that they will accept her despite the foreclosure and bankruptcy and not making 3x the rent, she will be so grateful. If you own an apartment or set of apartments and would be willing to take a chance on a reliable, friendly, kind, trustworthy woman, she would be over the moon. She just wants a safe, nice place to live with her wonderful cats, one of whom has megacolon and asthma and requires daily medication. She has lived through so much, including the suicide of her father and her own bout with breast cancer. Please help the best mom anyone could ask for.
