A driveway for Courtney.

Donation protected

Courtney is a 16 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy and a very rare skin disorder called Epidermolysis Bullosa Dystrophic. She is confined to a wheelchair and has to have dressings changed on a daily basis. This is very traumatic for her due to the pain of having to lance blisters that can form over night. Then continue with applying new dressings over raw flesh.  Courtney was born by emergancy caesarean and took a stroke six hours after she was born. Which paralysed her right side. She then began to take seizures ever two minutes. She was rushed to Westmead Childrens Hospital were at three days old she was declared officially brain dead. Her parents were told that once they removed life support she had no brain matter to tell her to breath. They had orgainsed her funeral and arranged for the whole family to be there when life support was removed. By some chance of a miracle she started breathing on her own, although she had not opened her eyes at this time. Her parents were placed in a small room and waited for her to pass away. Thankfully she continued to breath and the Hospital allowed her parents to take her home to die. Her first few weeks were spent with a member of her family taking turns to watch her and slowly she started to become stronger. She is our miracle little girl and her family are thankful for every precious moment they get to spend with her.

Eighteen months ago she received her first ever wheelchair. Her parents had a ramp installed which had to be constructed out the back due to the height of the front of the house. This means that they have to wheel Courtney from around the back of the house and down the driveway to be able to get her in the car. This has been a difficult process due to the existing driveway being cracked and in places muddy and very uneven. Until now her parents have been trying to cope with what they have but last week while trying to get Courtney out of the car the front wheel hit an uneven spot and the wheelchair tipped onto its side and Courtney smashed her head on the gravel. It was very distressing for her and her parents. She cried uncontrollably from the pain of hitting her head and the fright she had of tipping in her wheelchair.

We are asking for help as we would like to be able to replace the old driveway with a new one that is safe and even. Where Courtney is not at risk of her Wheelchair tipping in the future.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
