Help Logan get life changing surgery!

Hello there internet,

For anyone who may not know me, my name is Logan James Starr. I am 20 years old, and I am female to male transgender, also known as FTM. I am trying to raise funds for a bilateral mastectomy, known in the transgender community as Top Surgery.

So, the question is, why have I made this page instead of paying for this surgery myself? Well, to answer that, I'll tell you a little bit about myself.

I came out to myself as transgender in December of 2010. I socially transitioned and started living as male in September of 2011. It was not until June 2013 that I came out to my family, who was abusive an very anti-LGBT.

The day that I came out to them, I also ran away, as I was not in a safe living situation, and it definitely was not going to get any better. I took with me a small amount of money that I'd been saving in preperation, and a backpack full of a few items of clothing. I moved in with my partner, who is now my husband, who was kind enough to open his home to me, since he was formerly homeless because of a family who was also unaccepting of his identity as a (cisgender, meaning not transgender) gay man.

A lack of family support from both sides has meant that we have been on our own to support ourselves and maintain our home. While I had money saved when I moved out, starting a new life proved to be quite expensive, particularly as I did not have many basic necessities.

My husband is unable to work, and recieves disability benefits that barely get us by, and I have done short term jobs whenever possible, but have struggled with PTSD from the abuse I endured from my family, alongside severe gender dysphoria from not having surgery.

To try to cope with the gender dysphoria, I have been binding my chest for several years. While this alleviates the mental discomfort just enough to allow me to function, it creates a great amount of physical discomfort, enough so that I have recently bruised a rib from binding.

Not binding my chest is not an option, and the only recommended treatment for transgender individuals like myself is to physically transition. I have been on testosterone with the help of a free clinic since November of 2013, and that has helped greatly, but Medicaid has not yet altered it's policies to include transgender surgeries, and may not do so for a long time.

Without surgery, my mental and physical discomfort will only increase, and I need this procedure for the sake of my well being.

Currently, we have been approved for a medical loan through carecredit to aid in the cost of surgery, but that loan comes with high interest rates, and still would not cover the entire cost of surgery. I am also working through a youth program, and intend to save every penny.

We are trying the best that we can, but still need help to raise the funds. Anything that you can spare, no matter how small, will put me that much closer to getting surgery, which would undoubetdly improve my quality of life.
