Help Brenna Attend the HPAF!

Friends, I have been offered the unique opportunity to participate in the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival's summer opera intensive as a Development Artist. As a Development Artist, I will have the opportunity to sing the role of Mrs. Grose in Benjamin Britten's "Turn of the Screw," and to participate in recitals, masterclasses, and opera scenes programs. However, like most educational programs, this one is tuition-based, and this past audition season has been a wild ride from start to finish, taking to me Minneapolis, Orlando, New York, Los Angeles and, soon, London, which has taken a serious toll on my personal finances. It is only with your generous help that I will be able to participate in this valuable educational experience.

Opera has been a huge part of my life ever since I was reluctantly dragged to an Opera Grand Rapids production of The Merry Widow as a teenager. By the second act, when the titular Widow sang the Vilja-Lied, I was transfixed and knew I had found my passion and my future.

Achieving my dreams has been hard work. I've earned my B.A. in Music (voice performance emphasis) from Luther College and continued my studies at the University of Washington's School of Music, where I earned my Masters of Music in Voice Performance and had the opportunity to perform with a number of small local companies. Now, in Chicago, I am continuing my lessons and attending auditions across the country and overseas. I've also uploaded some of my music online here on SoundCloud. While every audition brings me closer to that future I envisioned while sitting in a box seat at DeVos Hall with my mother, each one also strains my budget.

With the full balance of my tuition for Hawaii due by May 15 and an audition trip to London next month, I need your help. My goal is to raise at least half of the $3,545 tuition.

That fee will cover:
-Tuition, room and board for the duration of the Festival
-Individual voice lessons
-Individual coachings and masterclasses
-Acting and movement/dance classes
-Classes in career management, audition presentation, and Baroque style and ornamentation
-The opportunity to work with resident composer Ricky Ian Gordon.

I appreciate any amount you can contribute, even $5. Again, you can listen to my SoundCloud here, and read more about the program here. Thank you so much for your support.
