MA2 Mark Mayo Family Fund

Donation protected
MA2 Mark Mayo was an exemplary United States Sailor. As a Master-at-Arms (MA), he served in Bahrain, Spain and Norfolk, Virginia.

On March 24, 2014, his life was cut short while serving as the Chief of the Guard for harbor security. On that night, Mark had responded to a distress call while onboard the USS Mahan, and quickly came to the aid of a naval counterpart. This is something Mark, like his fellow shipmates, had been trained for- protecting their fellow brothers and sisters in harms way, regardless of where they were, whether in a combat zone or at home.

Mark's passion for his patriotic duty commanded presence, and those around him reflected the same in their own actions. He loved the Navy; it was like his second family. Mark excelled at his job as a Petty Officer Second Class, and worked very hard at being the best sailor, MA, and friend to all those he crossed paths with. He was known for always having a smile on his face and a kind word for all. His wonderful personality and character always shined through, and somehow he managed to turn negatives into positives.

Mark and I worked together in Rota, Spain for roughly 1 ½ years, but he was more than a comrade to me, he was my also my friend. Mark joined the Navy to protect and support his country and those in it. He never asked for much in return, and was the type to drop everything to help someone else in need. He was very close with many within the MA community, and his loss will be felt by people all around the world that he touched at some point in his life.

As a country, we are in debt to our heroes, especially those that have made the ultimate sacrifice like MA2 Mark Mayo has, so it's now our turn to support him for the life he chose to live. Although no amount of money will ever ease his family's pain, your support will help in relieving some stress for them. Whether you decide to make a donation or not at this time, please also share this link with others who may be able to assist.

Mark's family resides in MD, and will need to travel to DC for the funeral, and to pay their last respects. So as his friend, I'd like to ask for your help in raising some funds for his family. Although the Navy will cover certain expenses towards his funeral arrangements, the family will be responsible for some of the costs relating to travel, lodging, meals, and other misc. expenses they will incur during their time in DC.

I hope that my personal memories of Mark will allow you to see him for who he was, but regardless of whether you knew him personally or not, I ask that you please take a moment to reflect on Mark's life and legacy and keep his family in your prayers. I thank you, in advance, for your support.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
