Gus the Beagle Needs Surgery
Gus came to live with us 4 years ago. We adopted Gus from a shelter, and he was very much in need of a good home. Poor Gus had been abused and was pretty frightened of people. It took a while for Gus to trust me, but eventually he did and we have developed a very strong bond and he became my best friend, a close family member, a pure joy.
Gus has had some health issues as many dogs from shelters do, Gus had past injuries from abuse that he is still affected by today. At some point Gus experinced trauma to his spine and as a result has episodes of back or neck.
Gus has a ruptured disc in his neck that is causing pain and also inflammation along his phrenic nerve which causes his neck and diaghram muscles to contract with each heartbeat causing him even more excruciating pain.
I have him hospitalized rigĥt now and he is receiving fentanyl, valium, and steroids. We are thankful the medical staff are so caring and are able to manage his pain. The last week has been expensive, I wiped my savings account out, which was only a few thousand, but it was all I had.
Right now the plan is to leave him hospitalized a couple of more days to rest and receive aggressive medication treatments, then to come home and rest.
The neurologist is certain though that removing his troubled disc will alleviate his pain and allow for him to live his life without having to deal with repeat episodes.
The surgery and advanced imaging required for the surgery come out to 6800.00, I have some of the money, and am hoping other beagle lovers might be able to help us get Gus out of pain even faster.
I have a bunch of these tools leftover from a Summer event for our company, and am more than happy to send them out to people who want to help me help my dog.
