Chrysta's Road to Worlds
Donation protected
Hello, My name is Chrysta Rands and I recently qualifed for the Junior National Team for inline speed skating.
I have been participating in local and national competitions for the last five years. I skate out of the Valley Skating Center in Donora with my team Valley Speed. Inline speed skating is competitive racing on roller speed skates and it is actually much like speed skating on ice. The races vary in distance and number of people, anywhere from 1-50 people per race and we skate on closed circuit courses of 200m or 400m.
Over the past couple year with continued improvement and effort resulted in my earning one of six spots last month to represent the USA at the 2015 world championships this November in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
The Taiwan trip is three weeks long. Once we reach Taiwan we have two weeks of practice and training and a week of competition. I need to raise $5,000 to cover all my expenses. The money will be used for team uniforms and apparel, training expenses, competition entry fees, equipment, travel, housing and meals, and USA national team coaching staff expenses.
The main reason for my fundraising request is that the USOC (United States Olympic Committee) had to cut back on funding and our sport was cut because we are not yet an Olympic sport. But we hope to be for the games in 2020!
