Hello friends!
In January 2014, I discovered the Capturing Fire Queer Spoken Word Slam & Summit in the midst of personal travels and I immediately became ecstatic, as I knew that this would be a new adventure. Capturing Fire is an international spoken word and poetry festival where queer-identified writers gather for a poetry slam after 3 days of panels, workshops, and performances. For a few years now, I have struggled to release my voice as it pertains to my intersectional Black queer identity. Finding this event was momentous and it will be even more epic being in attendance.
The summit will be held in Washington, D.C. from May 30 to June 1, 2014, which means that this will happen during my 24th birthday! It's going to be my first time attending a national poetry event. Though I am not slamming, something says for me to be here because it is in perfect alignment with my mission. In my hometown, I am aware that people have been supportive of my pursuit to "return to work" as an artist and I am answering my own determination by attending this festival. In order for me to make this trip, I need your help! Your financial contributions will help with travel, hostel stay, and food during my visit to D.C. Please donate anything you can to make this boy's birthday a memorable one!
