The Mighty Kit Needs Your Help!

Kit is a miracle and we are humbly asking for your help. Due to the amount of past and future hospital bills, we are very far behind. After his 4 + month fight home, he will have to do even more work to get the abilities of a child his age. He also has future surgies that we are already aware of and possible handicaps that require further testing. Our insurance helps some but in all honesty it may cause us to file bankruptcy and we are trying everything possible to avoid that. Thank you, in advance, for reading the story below, and any help you can give. It means the world to us!
December 1st started off with a bang. I started experiencing strong contractions and rushed to the hospital at 8am. This would have been fine if it was March but with it only being December 1st it was 15wks and 2 days too early. I hadn't even gotten to the 3rd trimester yet. When we got to the hospital and they hooked me up to the machines they quickly realized I was in active labor and already 2cm dilated. They quickly gave me a shot to help progress the development of my son's lungs. They also gave me magnesium to try to postpone the labor and stop the contractions. At that point they admitted us and put us in our room. Contractions started to get worse instead of better and so they had to set up the epidural. Once the epidural was in things seemed to have slowed down and we were able to get through the rest of the day. At midnight on Dec 2nd I was able to get the 2nd and final shot for the baby's lungs. The rest of that night seemed to be turning around. 1st thing in the morning they started discussing getting us a long time room to hold off labor as long as they could. The high risk ob came in to see how I was and check to make sure the contractions had stopped. They then found out I was 3cm dilated. Around noon they did an ultra sound to check on the baby and the test didn't look as promising as they hoped so they checked and I was at 8cm dilated. They quickly called the NICU team and everything seemed like a blur as our room quickly filled up with about 30 doctors and nurses. They promised us they would do everything possible to save the baby but also told us to prepare for the worse.
At 1:24pm on December 2, 2013, Christopher Michael Colangelo Jr. ("Kit") was born naturally. He weighed in at 1lb 7oz and was only 13in long. He was 15wks and 1 day too early, born gestationally at 24wks and 6days. They showed him to my husband and my mother and he was breathing on his own but quickly had to be intubated and rushed down to the NICU so they could quickly start working on saving his life. After delivery I ran into complications and had to be rushed to surgery. Shortly after surgery I was finally able to see my son. He went through a "honeymoon stage" and seemed to be doing really well. The next day that all wore off and he suffered a pulmonary hemorrhage. This is usually fatal but our little man kept fighting. He has been able to pass every test and even when things would look bad he has proved everyone wrong. I finally got to hold my son for the 1st time on December 12th. He was 10days old.
Kit so far has been in the NICU for over 4months having the fight of his life and defying the odds. We have had our ups and he has had his downs but he never gives up. There were several nights where the nicu team told us to prepare to say goodbye but luckily by the next morning he would shock everyone and make a turn in the right direction. He has a long road ahead of him and still not sure when he will be able to come home. He currently is at a transitional hospital so he can work on weight gain and feedings. Once Kit can come home he will be seeing numerous doctors monthly and some even weekly. This will go on for the 1st 3+years of his life and depending on any drawbacks he may have he may need to see certain doctors for many years after. We do know Kit will have to closely have his eyes followed because he is sitting on the fence for laser surgery. He also has failed his hearing test so he must undergo a more indepth testing to tell us exactly what he has to work with. Later this year he will also have to undergo surgery to drop his undescended testicle. Kit will be working weekly with physical and occupational therapy to try to get him on track. There is no promise on how his life will be but our hopes are that he will just be a normal, fun loving little boy. He has already shown this to us and all his awesome NICU nurses. Due to all of this my husband and I want to be able to give Kit everything he deserves and has fought for but unfortunately our hospital bills are already piling up. We have applied for everything we can think of but so far we have been denied of any help. This is where we need help from friends, family, and random people that Kit's story touches. Our son is full of life and we just want to be able to give him everything he has fought so hard for. We thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts and Kit thanks you as well!!!!
