BRING BILL HOME

Donation protected
For the past four years our friend, Bill Monger, has been desperate to get home to the UK; to return to good health and be back with friends that genuinely care for him.

Throughout this time, Bill has battled a rollercoaster of life changing events in Thailand where he sought a new life after the loss of both his parents.

In 2015, Bill contracted sepsis which led to kidney failure. He spent six weeks in a coma, during which time, hospital staff were able to reach his friends with a message about his condition on Facebook.

Attempts were made to repatriate Bill but a series of Catch 22 immigration issues – overstaying his visa due to his condition, being unable to care for himself adequately to obtain a ‘fit-to-fly’ certificate, his passport being taken and held in lieu of payment of hospital bills – meant Bill – with no other family members to support him – had no choice but to attempt his recovery alone in Thailand.

True to Bill’s generous nature, he previously used much of his life’s savings to help friends. Now, with this sad turn of events, he simply could not afford to get home or even pay for his own ongoing medical care.

When Bill was finally released from hospital, partially recovered but weakened, he fell in the street breaking his elbow, shoulder and hip. Unable to cover further hospital bills, Bill faced recovery from these most traumatic of injuries alone and without any specialist medical care to heal his broken bones.

A kind local friend arranged basic care in a support home. Feb 2018 marks Bills 20th month of being confined to his bed and the language barrier is preventing him from communicating his needs with staff.

Without the collective support of his friends to meet the costs of a trained medic team to bring him home, Bill’s future is beyond bleak. He could spend the rest of his days, languishing in this care home for dementia patients – in crippling pain and isolation.

Between us, we can get Bill back to Blighty. The cost of the flight medics is £13,000. Ongoing costs will be met by his friends on his return. He has already been kindly offered accommodation.

Life has thrown Bill a massive curveball, but despite his immense suffering, he won’t be defeated. Astonishingly, he remains as resilient and cheerful as ever. He just needs to know that he’s not alone and that there is some glimmer of hope. A little help from his friends will make an enormous difference.

With heartfelt thanks from Bill’s friends,

Jacqui, Sue, Helen and Paul
