Mellie's Other Knee

Donation protected

Mellie Border Collie "exploded" her right knee two years ago.  The surgeon, who does several hundred TPLO surgeries every year, said the injury was so bad that x-ray made him sick to look at.  With dog knees, once the first one goes, the other leg's cruciate ligament usually ends up rupturing as well.  Mellie's left knee now needs surgery.  Without it, not only will her left knee become painful and unusable, but the compensation damage in her right leg will not be able to heal, and she will gradually lose use of both hind legs.

Mellis is only eight years old and not ready to become a virtual paraplegic. She loves nothing more than to run and jump.  Even if her activity must be limited, I would like her to be able to walk without a lot of pain for the rest of her life.  She needs this surgery to do that.  I expect to schedule the surgery for the week of April 7, 2014.

I was overwhelmed by the help Mellie received for her previous surgery and hate having to ask for yet more help.  But I hate the idea of her being lamed and in pain for several more years even more, so I'm asking.

Thank you.
