HI! We're the Central Jersey Stream Team! We're a small grass roots environmental group working hard to clean and restore the waterways of Central New Jersey. In our first year effort we removed over 600 tires as well as many tons of trash from a 10 mile stretch of the Raritan River. We also found and removed 3 cars from in and near the river.
This year we hope to expand our efforts as we apply for official 501c3 nonprofit status. Our ultimate goal this year is 30 miles of clean Raritan River...but we can't accomplish our goal without expanding our program. To improve our efforts we are in need of a canoe trailer and canoes to ensure that our volunteers have the ability to get out on the river, a small closed trailer for our trash removing gear, gear for working on the river (pry bars, shovels and gloves for our volunteers) and food for our volunteers to keep them safe and healthy while out on the river. And with the heavy snow this year, we will be in need of financial assistance to properly dispose of what we find, as local municipalities will be tapped out from the snow removal.
The Raritan River is the longest river within the state of New Jersey. For many people it is forgotten or not even thought about. Our aim is to bring people back to this beautiful river. Not to mention hundreds of thousands of New Jersey residents get their drinking water from the 30 miles of river that we will be focusing on this summer.
