Study Abroad in Japan 2014

Donation protected
Though there exist many ways to pursue one's academic initiatives, it was a long-standing dream of mine to complete the last few months of study in Japan. Given that the University of Toledo Exchange Program offers a fall semester abroad at Aichi University in Nagoya, Japan, it would be an incredible opportunity to further solidify my academic pursuits in the Japanese language. As a senior with a major in Asian Studies and a minor in Japanese, this opportunity would be partaken in Fall 2014, coinciding with the final semester before graduation. Of course the steps necessary to successfully enter this exchange program will require a significant amount of effort that is only limited by my financial means.

Since the exchange program in Aichi University offers a special Japanese Language Course for exchange students, its intended objectives are in parallel with my own initiatives on improving my skills to achieve a successful score on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Of course beyond this short-term goal is the long-term plan to pursue a Masters of Arts in Japanese Language in Japan. Such a plan is already being put into effect through countless hours of not only self-study but even in the process of creating a Calligraphy Club here in the University of Toledo. It would not be a complete surprise then to state that immersing myself in the Japanese culture is a passion of mine that I wish to pursue in the long run. In fact the Japanese-centric courses in Aichi University will help not only in getting acquainted with the immediate surroundings but even serve as a foreshadow for a future career as a professional interpreter or translator in Japan. It is the kind of experience that is simply not completely possible when only studying it through books alone.

Of course having the incredible opportunity to study in Aichi opportunity will also allow me to experience the rich culture of Nagoya. As it was stated beforehand, this is a kind of experience that cannot be accomplished through text or pictures alone. Being able to interact with the various activities and people in the city will help to put much of my academic accomplishments into practice. As someone who wishes to continue studying Japanese beyond the undergraduate level, this type of involvement in the language and culture of the city is inherent for helping me realize the true passion that derives from learning Japanese. Though much effort is being made into securing a number of short-term jobs for additional funding, I would be sincerely grateful for the help I could get from everyone. Given the generosity of your help, it would be an incredible step forward not only for my academic pursuits but my professionals ambitions in the coming years.
