Pet Partners, Inc- Our Mission
We are located in Fall River, a small city in Southeastern Massachusetts. With a population of approximately 89,000, we have a large animal to human ratio. We are lucky to have three amazing full-time animal control officers. They spend much of their time working with pet owners and can see first hand the importance of spaying and neutering pets. One of the ACO's recently shared a story about a pitbull they recently had to euthanize for biting someone. When the dog was a puppy, the ACO strongly recommended that the owner have him neutered. Unfortunately, it was never done. With testosterone levels high, the dog was aggressive and eventually bit someone. Sadly, this is an all too familiar story. According to the ACO, the primary reasons why these dogs are not spayed and neutered are:
1) owners feel it "takes away from the dog's manhood" if he is neutered
2) female dogs will be bred so the owner can make money
3) owners cannot legitimately afford it, even at low cost clinics
According to Fall River Animal Control, out of the 324 dogs that were picked up in 2013, 93 were pitbulls. Out of those 93 pitbulls, 32 had to be euthanized due to aggressive behaviour. Only 20 of the remaining pitbulls were claimed by their owners, the rest were put up for adoption at a local shelter.
With the $5000 raised, Pet Partners, in conjunction with Fall River Animal Control, would like to offer a free to low cost spay/neuter program for pitbull owners. We hope that with the money raised, we would be able to spay or neuter at least 20 dogs. We feel that if we can spay/neuter even a few more pitbulls in the city, then we are one step closer to fulfilling our mission!
