help gringo the great pyrenees

My sweet dog Gringo is fighting for his life. Somehow he got a hole in his diaphragm which caused his intestines and his liver to migrate into his chest. We think he may have got hit by a car or hurt while protecting his heard of goats. Our local vet recommended we put him to sleep, not knowing the cause of his weight loss and liver failure. We chose to take him to Iowa State Vet College to get an opinion of what was wrong. They found out right away and it is treatable.... but will take several thousand dollars to fix him. Heartbreaking.
