Hello friends! I am honored to have been selected as an Archer Fellow for the Graduate Program in Public Policy and I will be spending summer 2014 in Washington DC - if you help make this happen!
I am a Master of Social Work student and I get to represent my University, the University of Texas El Paso, in Washington D.C. I will get to take a course on Policy in the place where it all happens and I will be doing 40 hours of internship (place to be determined). As a Latina and first generation college student I want to work with underserved populations and take what I learn in D.C. and apply it in El Paso. Currently I am attending classes at UTEP full time and interning with the amazing people of Social Services at the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo.
How much does it cost to go to Washington, D.C. as part of the program? Estimated costs are 6,800 dollars without tuition (Archer FAQs). Tuition is another 3,000 dollars. Please consider supporting me, I know the amazing things people can do when we pull together! Also, I have been asked by the university to do a blog, which I will be updating along with another Archer Fellow. (takingdcbystorm.blogspot.com)
Any amount is deeply appreciated, as a former teacher I know how hard we all work for our money. But if you donate 100 dollars, I do have a special gift. I am a hobby roaster (all you need is a popcorn popper!) and I will roast some coffee and send it to you.
