BACKGROUND: On November 8, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda, considered the most powerful storm to ever make landfall, battered the Philippines with sustained winds close to 200 mph. Typhoon Haiyan affected a total of 9.5 million people across the Philippines and displaced at least 600,000.

Since then, UN Workers and volunteer healthcare providers from around the world, including Vicki Penwell, CPM, Mercy in Action, Ibu Robin Lim, CPM, Yayasan Bumi Sehat, and Michele Peixinho, LM, CPM, Breath of My Heart Midwives, have responded to the disaster that has displaced more than half a million. While progress has been made, there is never enough assistance to meet the needs of birthing women and their families who are without facilities or life sustaining care.
Claudia Booker, CPM, who has previously traveled overseas to provide care to mothers and their infants in Senegal and Bali, has been invited to join members of the International and local team who have been responding to the urgent maternal health needs of the community. She will be joining Ibu Robin Lim and a team of international midwives for one month in June to work in the Birth Camp near Dulag, Leyte, near ground zero of the Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda disaster zone.
With your support she will leave her solo midwifery and birth work practice to relieve others who have responded to the call. Please help support her in her commitment to provide professional skills and resources, and supplies, for the expecting mothers and babies of The Birth Camp at Dulag, Leyte.
