Hi everyone! I'm Lana Polansky, your friendly neighbourhood game critic, designer, writer and zinester. You might remember from such websites as Kill Screen, Bit Creature and Sufficiently Human.
As you may or may not know, I will be speaking as part of the next GDC Microtalk (look! There's my name!) This privelege grants me not only an honour that I'm not sure I deserve--but will do my best to live up to--but a complementary pass into the event that, under normal circumstances, I couldn't afford. Unfortunately, that doesn't include a plane ticket, spending money and shelter.
I'm also blessed to have many generous supporters who, by pledging to me on Patreon, make it possible to me to write pieces, make games and follow my heart on personal projects while still allowing me to make rent and pay utilities. While I can't express just how much I appreciate this, it's still not quite enough for me to afford fancy trips from Canada to San Francisco.
With this funding page, I'm calling upon your generosity so that I can make it to GDC and take this amazing opportunity. Thankfully, I have family and friends who can provide me with a place to stay, but when it comes to the plane ticket, travel insurance and spending money (to be used primarily for food), I've got to somehow come up with the cash. But with your help, I can! Here's what your $1100 would be paying for:
-$700 covers the cost of the plane ticket itself, taxes and fees ($137) and flight insurance ($80).
-$100 is to cover taxi fare to and from the airport.
-The remaining $300 is to make sure I'm able to eat and, if I need spending money for whatever reason in a pinch, I have it to spare.
