Bike Index is an incredible, open source, crowdsource resource to the bike community that allows people to register their bikes and report them when stolen. Not only that, but Bryan and Seth who run the website are incredibly passionate and vigilant in helping people recover their bikes.

Yang is an every day bike hero.
Yang was looking for a commuter bike so he could get from his graduate student housing on the Burke-Gilman Trail to the UW campus.
On Sunday, July 26, he saw a beautiful bike on OfferUp for only $500. He contacted the seller and met up with him at the Northgate Mall. The seller ended up being a little too sketchy, so when Yang got home he checked it against Bike Index 's reported stolen bikes. He didn't find it there, so he thought the bike was in the clear.
But he checked again the next day. He found that it was in fact my bike --- the bike that was stolen from me on July 4 and that I had purchased just three weeks prior for my ride on Cascade Bicycle Club 's Seattle-to-Portland ride. Yang immediately emailed and called me.
I was just a block away when he called. I walked over to his home, and he gave me the bike right then and there.
Everyday people sell and buy stolen bikes. Yang is exceptional.
Let's get Yang a great commuter bike.
The goal here is just the $500 he's out. But I'll be contributing in addition to the $500, and a bike shop and a bike rental company have already offered in-kind contributions. So let's get Yang the best bike we can.
