Linus: Femoral Head Necrosis

Donation protected
Meet Linus, my best friend of about two years. The day my boyfriend and I went to pick out a kitten, this is the first one we laid our eyes on. We picked him up and he licked my boyfriend right on the nose. We knew right then and there that we had something special. Everyone who meets Linus instantly falls in love with his affectionate personality. He loves to play fetch and lick people's hands, faces, and bodies. He's quite the lover.

Every morning when I wake up, Linus is waiting outside of my door meowing to greet me. He follows me all around the house as I get ready to go to work. This morning was nothing out of the ordinary. When I left the house this morning, everything was normal. My mother called me after I had been gone for about a half an hour and told me to come home because there was something wrong with Linus. I told her that she must be making a mistake, that I had just seen him within the hour and everything was fine. She told me to come home right away and that he needed to get to the vet immediately. I came in the door and my heart dropped. Linus was laying on the kitchen floor under a blanket with my mom beside him, howling the most horrible sound I have ever heard come out of his mouth. He could barely stand up. If he did move about, he was limping around without any use of his back left paw at all. I knew something was terribly wrong. I got him in to the vet's office within the next hour. They gave him some medicine to help with the pain and said that they were going to run some x-rays. They brought Linus back in and told us that the vet would be with us shortly. When she came back into the room, the look on her face shot my head between my knees. I knew it wasn't going to be good news.

Linus has a vascular necrosis of the femural head. For Linus, one of his hip bones functions normally while the other is wearing away at the joint, causing him terrible pain. This is extremely rare in cats, but most cases that do exist are cats either his age or younger. Linus needs a surgery to be able to cut off the part of the bone that isn't working properly and get his leg back in working order. If he doesn't get the surgery he will be in constant pain and his back legs wont be able to function normally.

I've never had to ask friends/family/neighbors/strangers for help before. I'm not one to ask for help or even take it if it's offered most of the time. When it comes to Linus it's different. I'll do anything to try and make sure he gets what he needs to be able to live a happy and healthy life. Any donations you could offer would be more than generous and life-changing for Linus, even if it's just some spare change.

The surgery doesn't have a finalized date yet at this point. The vet office we take Linus to is:
Florence Animal Clinic
185 Locust Street
Northampton, MA 01060
(413) [phone redacted]

Thank you for reading this. If you can't help out I completely understand, but please if anything pass this on to someone who maybe could and shoot a couple prayers in our direction. It would mean a lot.
