Help Me to Study Abroad in South Korea!

Hello friends, family and kind-hearted strangers! 

My name is Christa Mullis. I've been dreaming of seeing the world, learning other languages and helping to share cultural understanding for as long as I can remember! This is why I am a Mass Communications major and an Asian Studies minor at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

I am planning a career in intercultural communication via media between East Asia and the West and have jumped at any opportunity to experience a hands-on education of the cultures of East Asia. 

This past summer (2013) I was able to take part in a small summer study abroad trip through my high school to Nanjing, China (after studying Mandarin Chinese for several years) and the experience was everything I could have hoped and more.

Now I have been presented with the chance to gain a close-up understanding of South Korea with a $1,000 scholarship from UNCA Study Abroad Department. 

The scholarship covers the cost of the four week Korean Studies Summer Program (KSSP), which is held at Hannam University in Daejeon, the 5th largest city in South Korea and just 50 minutes from Seoul. However, I still need the funds for the airfare. 

I will stay in international dorms at Hannam University and for three weeks study the Korean language, take Korean culture classes, and participate in cultural excursions. During the fourth week I will work as a volunteer teaching English to elementary school students. At the completion of the program I will recieve 6 credit hours towards my college degree.
