Those of you who have been following the heady excitement of the 'sarcancerthon' tag will know that I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. While I spent a whole week hoping that it was a mistake, I've finally come to terms with the fact that for the next six months or so my life is going to be a lot more difficult that I had formerly anticipated.
After finding out that my cancer was a lot more serious than we first thought, and that I will need a mastectomy and chemotherapy, my mother decided to come out from the US and visit me. This is obviously brilliant, but it means Mum living on another continent, away from Dad and my sister, unable to work (or claim any state benefits) while she looks after me.
What this fundraiser hopes to do is have put aside enough money so my mother and I can afford to pay our rent and bills, expenses like taxis and new clothes after my boob goes, and maybe a few take-away pizzas now and then when we're too tired to cook.
The future is currently a confusing and bewildering place, and if you can help me and my family take worrying about money out of that equation then we all would be eternally grateful, and it would be a real boon to us all.
