Help Keep Me Alive Rowing the Pacific

Donation protected

If you are interested in keeping me alive, I would greatly appreciate your support.  Please read further:

I am attempting to do something that has never been done before.  My team and I will be rowing from Monterey, California to Honolulu, Hawaii and will be the first team of four in a row boat ever to attempt this (3 males, 1 female)!  This expedition could last up to 70+ days.

Why?
I can only answer this question with a quote from one of my favorite adventurers following his first expedition which inspired him to lead a life of discovery and contributions to the outdoor world "...That was my first taste of what the wilderness is.  It's frightening, uncomfortable, lonely.  You wish you were home, but it leaves an indelible mark."  -Will Steger

It's seldom that one can perceive a challenge and follow through.  This opportunity came at a serendipitous time in my life and has given me a chance to make history and contribute to scientific study.  For some of us, knowing the vastness of the Earth is not enough.  Some of us must go into the unknown, for that is where we feel most comfortable.

Microplastics are ruining our oceans!

We will be raising awareness of plastics in the ocean by collecting and monitoring ocean trash.
In addition, we are partnered with a NASA research group and will be measuring ocean surface salinity which will help to better understand climatic effects.  Most motorboats and sailboats move too fast to gain data for this study!

There are no motors and no sails on board the boat; only oars.  This is not an easy expedition and not for the faint of heart.  I have sunk every penny of my savings and hard work into this expedition and can't quit now!  I've spent two years working towards the reality of an ocean row and I am so close now.
The journey begins in June 2014 and I am still short of funds for necessary items.

Donations will go towards my contribution of vital equipment and provisions on the boat.
There is an inherent amount of risk in this attempt and I am in need of emergency equipment and food.
Examples of these items are:

PLB (personal locater beacon): This device sends off an emergency gps signal if I go overboard in the Pacific ocean, or any other life threatening emergency

VHF Radio:  In cases of emergency, this will get me in audio contact with coast guard, or approaching vessels that are in a close proximity to the boat (like massive container ships that can't see our little boat in the water).

Sat Phone:  When out of range on VHF, I am able to contact anyone through satellite in the event of an emergency and tell my family I love them.

Food:  I need up to 73 days worth of dried food on board and this is not cheap.  I will be burning an absurd amount of calories daily as we are rowing in 2-3 hour shifts 24/7.  OVER 240,000 Calories burned total!

First Aid Kit:  My primary goal on this ocean crossing is to finish safely, with everyone healthy.  The first aid gear is an incredible expense and very well worth it.  You would not believe how much gear will be in the kit.

Survival Suit:  The water in the open waters of the Pacific (even in the summer) is cold...very cold.  In a scenario where we know the boat is going under, a survival suit may save my life.

Safety Lighting, backup gps, backup solar power, etc..

We literally don't even have a bucket to **** in at this point and yes that is how we go to the bathroom -- on the deck, in a bucket, in front of each other.

Any excess funds will go towards better quality equipment!

If interested in learning more about this, please don't hesitate to contact me!  Wow, I am busy in preparation for this trip but I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

Any $50 donation & over will receive a t-shirt with the team logo on the front and the team member names listed on the back, as well as the distance rowed and the route.

Thank you so much for your support, prayers and love.
I look forward to seeing you at the end of my journey!  GoPro is supporting us with equipment on board and there will be video footage throughout the expedition to share.
